Bio

“Music has always been my inspiration” – so once Alfia Yussupova said to me, years ago. It certainly has been the guiding force in her life and has taken her thousands of miles around the world, from a very humble beginning as a small child, in a grey block apartment building in Soviet Russia, dreaming of the day when she would go to Moscow to dedicate her life to music. Then, incredibly, at the tender age of 11, the odyssey began: She left her home to attend school with other gifted children from around the world, and on to study under some of the world  famous professors, and in the company of some of the greatest artists of this century.

She came to the United States, where she continued her musical pursuits. Alfia`s Music is marked by unparalleled sensitivity and passion, and reflects both the lightness and the intensity of her character. Her style is one of eclecticism – steeped in the weighty classicism of the great Russian composers and the best Russian musical traditions, so tinged by the struggle and pain of the Great War, and at the same time, expressive of a new optimism, the light of hope, and the longing of memories – memories that haunt the grey spaces of our long winter days. Her latest effort is called “Inspiration” – not one but several compositions, each of which serves to renew our spirits, and yet remind us of where we have been – like the faded photograph, our memory’s  store.
